Thought my MR2 was a new car. It’s 28 years old with flippy headlights and t-tops.
Yeah so he was out of touch. Cool car though. I’d imagine it’s a desirable spec - 454 with no silly landau. 1971 with power windows and climate control, absolutely insane. And god that rear end is cool.
Hi Americans! This is a rare spot in Australia let me have my moment :) I’m not too ashamed to say I couldn’t pick what it was without reading the badge.

Believe it or not outside of muscle cars nobody drives these big boats on the road in America anymore either. I guess all these “classics” are just collecting dust in garages.

Gas is too expensive to daily drive them anymore, but I came across this one still patrolling the streets the other day.

I wish I saw more of these cars on the road. It might be because pittsburgh isn’t much of a car town.

There’s a guy in my town that daily’s a 68 Impala coupe in the summer, and has a 2000 something Chevy pickup for winter.

Me being in L.A. helps. A lot of old survivors out here. My favorite thing is seeing a classic Mustang still being driven by some old person who’s had the car for 50 years. There’s still a bunch of those.

You, of course, mean a 455 not 454. A Buick with a Chevy engine? That will never happen! You might as well put an Olds in engine in a Trans Am!

Gas prices are a weak excuse. It’s like $2.50 a gallon - inflation adjusted, gas costs pretty much exactly the same as it did in 1965.

A 1972 Boat-tail Riv is a bucket list car for me. The exterior lines are absolutely beautiful, and in my opinion it had the least offensive front bumper of the 71-73 Rivs.

I can see why. Distinctive without being hideous.

Hahaha! The man said 455 but I’d heard 454 before so that’s what I wrote. Pretty sure either said 454 to him at one point too, the shame!
I’ve never seen an Oldsmobile.

I believe it. But I’m sure they show up at car shows fairly often right? Ours are full of imported mustangs, bah

He was trying to tell me gas isn’t too bad. I think he was trying to say modern cars are so heavy that they use heaps anyway. Ignoring 50 years of efficiency improvements.
But yeah he kept pointing at my car to illustrate his points. My car weighs nothing and has a 2L 4cyl!

The big shows always, I feel like a good bit of these were preserved but nobody brings them out because they usually have “nicer” stuff. local stuff is mostly muscle cars or 50s stuff. It’s a shame really, early malaise era american stuff is still great looking.

A product of Bill Mitchell’s obsession with 1920s and ‘30s custom coachbuilt luxury cars. And certainly more successful an interpretation than the ‘80-’85 Seville (not that I don’t see some appeal there, either).

well spotted.
